Star was born in Tonga, he moved with his family to Utah at age 9. He attended Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah. Playing defensive lineman at 240 pounds, he helped the team to a 14–0 record and a state title in 2006. He also registered 72 tackles and seven sacks as a senior.

He was re-signed to the active roster on January 2, 2012. He was traded to the Indianapolis Colts on March 28, 2013.
